Get API key

A step-by-step guide on how to get an API key to use Perplexity models.

1. Sign up for an account

   First, visit the Perplexity↗ website and create an account. Click the Sign Up button in the bottom left corner.

2. Navigate to the API Keys Section and add payment method

   Once signed in, go to Settings / API Keys↗ section, or click the gear icon in the bottom left corner, next to your avatar, then click the API tab.

   Now you will need to add payment method and buy credits, following the instructions on the screen.

   🗒️When you run out of credits, your API keys will be blocked until you add to your credit balance. You can avoid this by configuring Automatic Top Up, which refreshes your balance whenever you drop below $2.

3. Generate New API Key

   Click the + Generate button in the API Keys section and copy it by clicking the Copy button.

   It's important to remember that your API key is like a password, so treat it as confidential information. Only you should know it and if it falls into the wrong hands, others may be able to use it to access Perplexity services using your account.

4. Enter your API key into Kerlig

   Go to Settings, Integrations tab, then select Perplexity. Paste your API key into the API Key field and click Save.

   You should now be able to use Perplexity models in Kerlig.
